PSHE/RSHE/SMSC

At our school, Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education, Relationships, Sex, and Health Education (RSHE), and Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) development sit at the very heart of our curriculum. We believe that academic success and personal well-being go hand in hand; children cannot learn effectively if they do not feel safe, valued, and understood. By weaving these frameworks together, we provide pupils with the essential knowledge, emotional resilience, and critical thinking skills they need to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Our goal is to nurture well-rounded, empathetic individuals who not only respect diversity and uphold positive moral values, but who are also fully equipped to build healthy relationships, make informed decisions, and thrive as confident citizens in a rapidly changing society.

We teach PSHE/RHE on a weekly basis with specific lesson plans designed to meet the criteria of the curriculum.

We use a wide range of resources to promote the importance of respect, kindness and honesty as well as safety, consent and collaboration. We are a No Outsider school and the texts used from this scheme enhance the work we do within this curriculum.

We are a MyHappyMind school and start each new week with a session on how to keep a healthy mind, teaching pupils the tools they need to be resilient.

We also thread PSHE/RHE through the work we do in Computing (through e-safety lessons) and within Literacy lessons when we are looking at characters and relationships.

Closely aligned with this personal development is our commitment to promoting fundamental British values, which are deeply embedded within our PSHE, RSHE, and SMSC provision. We actively teach democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. Through daily school life, student councils, and open discussions, our pupils learn how society functions and why these values matter. By exploring these principles in an age-appropriate way, we ensure our children grow up with a strong sense of social justice, a deep respect for the rights of others, and the ability to contribute positively to a diverse and democratic Britain.
